Lena Carter: Learn and Create

What I offer

A commitment to helping you find meaning and joy.

I am a dramatherapist and teacher with over thirty years of experience working with children and families across the UK. I am registered with the HCPC as a dramatherapist and with the General Teaching Council for Scotland as a teacher.

I have particular experience and specialism in supporting children with Additional Support Needs (sometimes known as Special Educational Needs), as well as children who find school challenging or who have lost confidence in their own amazing abilities.

I have previously used dramatherapy to support clients in areas such as:
• Building confidence and self-esteem
• Exploring identity and self
• Living with neurodivergence
• Understanding sensitivity
• Enhancing learning and focus
• Managing conflict
• Processing grief and bereavement
• Recovering from trauma
• Managing self-harm and suicidal thoughts

My approach is attachment-led and trauma-informed, recognising that our relationships, experiences and environments can profoundly shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. I believe that when people feel safe, heard, understood and genuinely accepted, they are better able to explore who they are, develop their strengths and discover new possibilities.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the importance of connection, creativity and curiosity. Through creative exploration, reflection and supportive relationships, I aim to help people make sense of their experiences, build confidence and connect with their true selves.

Ultimately, my work is about empowering people to grow, find meaning and experience greater joy in their lives — in ways that recognise and celebrate their individuality, strengths and potential.

My approach

My approach combines evidence-based practice with warmth, creativity, and a deep respect for each person’s potential.

Confidentiality

What you share with me is private and treated with care and respect. I will always talk with you about confidentiality and the few circumstances where information may need to be shared, such as when there are concerns about someone’s safety.

My work with families

When working with children, it is important for me to work alongside and support the wider family. Although one-to-one session content is confidential, I offer regular family support and check-ins. This ensures that my work as a supporting adult in the child’s life aligns with the approaches and values of the child’s primary care-givers.

My qualifications.
